This article on the Russian Federation’s apparent plans to temporarily disconnect from the internet reminded me of this fascinating prediction from An Xiao Mina on the New York Magazine’s 2038 podcast about the future of the internet. I am not sure what to make of the plan to disconnect on April Fool’s Day.
Claire Hamill, Voices - Sleep (1986)
I heard this song from Claire Hamill on mix from EchoOcho on mixcloud and just loved it. Composed almost entirely of 12-bit voice samples, the album, Voices, brought back to mind the first time I heard Laurie Anderson’s Big Science. Fond/Sound has a nice little review of Voices and its curious connection to the BBC Domesday Book (1986).
The Attic is the kind of song that I might have mistaken for a Brian Eno outtake from Another Green World. But the rest of the album, Whichever Way You Are Going You Are Going Wrong, is all instrumental. Joyful little guitar and keyboard tunes (Swingtime), moody acoustic guitar explorations, this album sounds fresh today. And it was one that I’d never heard of until EchoOcho brought it to my attention. So thank you!
